Point of a vision

Point of a vision is the future

Point of a vision—the future

“Visions are waste of time. What’s the point of a vision posted on a wall?”
“They should know what I want. I’ve said it at the company meeting… yes it was 5 months ago.”
“I’ve got a good vision…but no one else buys into it…well, they might not know about it.”
“My vision is to be successful. That’s it. What else is there?”
Okay now.  These are actual sentences spoken by real people. You may know someone like this. Heck, you might be one.
Why do these people discount visions?

One big reason is that it is risky to dream big. It’s a pain to over communicate. It takes discipline and intention to drive home change.
Visions also take us out of our comfort zone. Visions push us, inspire us, drive us to do more.

If you are a leader take note.

  • Visions of the future form the foundation to sustained achievement, alignment and effective execution.
  • Visions are:  1) vivid, 2) positive and inspiring, 3) realistically high, 4) focused and clear, and 5) they are your picture of the future.
  • Visions are constantly communicated and embedded into the very fabric of a vibrant organization.

What is your vision? Do you have one?Is your vision written, communicated often? If not, why not?
