Yah but, “Everything is urgent. Where do I start prioritizing?”

  1. Know your goals clearly. Use a tool that works for you to keep them in sight, available, and updatable.
  2. Remember goals are SMART, stated as “what” you want accomplished, not stated as another task.
  3. Align them with your vision, purpose or long term goal. There’s one simple test for alignment: Does the goal get you closer to your visionor further away? “Yes” or “No,” period. If it’s not a clear yes then it’s a no.

Execute like you mean it. Set boundaries for yourself. Always available, always saying yes results in “piling on” to-do tasks and becoming crazy busy with non-aligned goals and tasks.

  1. Ask if this meeting, task, request, project takes you closer to your goal or not. Again, “Yes” or “No.”
  2. Set aside dedicated time to work on your SMART goals and tasks with no interruptions.
  3. Use good project management and collaboration tools. Email, texts and Excel work but are limited and not really collaborative in nature. I use asana.com for project management and collaboration, and a leadership and management app for developing, managing, and prioritizing my SMART goals, of course mobile enabled and free for 1-3 users.

Simple, really. The hard part is the discipline to do it. The beauty is that for everything worth doing, you can do more than you think, with more focus and less stress.

Try it. Who knows you might like it.
